I was given two small samples by the lactation consultant at my pedi yesterday. This is my third child and thanks to inverted nipples and a baby with severe reflux have always had problems with sore, cracked, bleeding nipples. These problems arise despite over 3 years of breastfeeding and numerous consultants in the US and UK confirming that my babies are latching appropriately. I just have really dry skin prone to eczema, and have troubles even when not breastfeeding.
I LOVE this ointment. It is leagues beyond Lansinoh and I love that it passed the rigorous (and some times hyperbolic) EWG standards for having no toxins or risks. I started using it last night since I was given two trial samples and the first application wiped out my baby's diaper rash. Reviews on here and the back stated it could be used as a nipple cream and while I waited in pain for my prescription, I thought, why not?
Wonderful! Just overnight applying it (a little goes a long way), my nipples have stopped bleeding and letdown has stopped burning. It also doesn't stick and works well with the ultrasoft Bamboobies I got yesterday as well (the lansinoh was drying up and sticking to it, so I had to peel my breast pads off from the bleeding, this issue totally disappeared when using Motherlove).
I am sure it won't work for everyone, as no product does, but if you struggle with these problems, you will not regret the price of this one bit. I wish I had it in my previous 3 years of breastfeeding my other 2 kids! I'm ordering a bottle right now and called my lactation consultant to tell her to stock it!!! I would especially recommend it if you have believed that you might have an underlying problem with thrush in your ducts. I think that may have been causing the burning in the letdown and it has now gone away. Don't know how the nipple cream from this company compares, but I think I will just stick with using this as a nipple cream given that its getting the job done!
