How Can a Yeast Diaper Rash Be Treated?

I am pretty sure that my baby's diaper rash is actually a yeast infection. Must I take him to see the pediatrician or can I treat a yeast diaper rash at home?
Answer:

If your baby has been fighting a bad rash in the diaper area, and you've figured out that he has a yeast infection and not a typical diaper rash or bacterial infection, it may be possible to treat it at home. Just be mindful that if your little one develops a fever or if the rash starts to open or ooze, you need to consult a medical professional.
Over-the-Counter Yeast Infection Treatments

You've got a few options for topical treatments for your baby's yeast infection diaper rash at home. Three common antifungal treatment creams available without a prescription are:

Nystatin - name brand Mycostatin
Clotrimazole - name brand Lotrimin
Miconazole Micatin - name brand Monistat-Derm

These creams are also available in store brand generics and may provide a deal. Generally, after four to seven days of treatment as detailed on the label, yeast infections clear up. If not, you may need to consult your doctor and see if a prescription is necessary. Ketoconazole (Nizoral cream) and econazole (Spectazole) may be prescribed.
